Kent cigarettes were first made by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the 1950's and they were named after Mr. Herbert Kent, a former executive at Lorillard Tobacco Company. This brand became the most liked brand and top the sales charts from 1966 t0 1972 in the United States. They may not be the top rated cigarettes now but Kent cigarettes are still popular and ranked number six on the most popular cigarette brands list in the United States and were ranked the fourth most sought brand worldwide. Kent cigarettes also claim to be additive free tag, and this tag has earned this brand many followers, so much so that studies show 84 percent of those surveyed identified Kent cigarettes as their most preferred brand and 10 percent people consider this brand as their second most preferred choice.
Kent cigarettes are currently made by the British American Tobacco Company, which is the world's second largest cigarette producer and distributer of premium cigarettes to more than 150 countries. Kent cigarettes are most popular in the United States and numerous European countries. The British American Tobacco (BAT) produces more than 20 billion Kent cigarettes every year. One of the salient features of this brand is the advanced filter system. Kent were using filters with Crocidolite asbestos, which was harmful to the body, but after 1954 they adopted Micronite in their filters. Kent were the first cigarette brand to use filter in their products. In the 1950's only 2 percent of cigarettes sold used filter in their cigarettes and after the "Cancer in Cartons" report the number of cigarettes with filter increased to 10 percent.
These cigarettes are available in different flavors and styles, few of them are Kent Lights, Kent Select Lights, regular Kent Full Flavored, Kent Selects, Kent Slims and Kent Super Slims and more. Some of the Kent varieties are targeted at specific group of people, like that of Slim and Super Slim varieties, which are primarily meant for female smokers.
