This promotional campaign was an attempt to influence public opinion that coincided with the United States' entry into World War I, and later World War II. Another promotional activity was the use of camel called "Old Joe." The company used to drive trucks around the town with a picture of "Old Joe" and give out few free cigarettes. This was also done in local bars and clubs.
